Wind tunnel test of skiing jumping campaigned in FL-8 wind tunnel
In May, 2019, one wind tunnel test campaign on ski jumpers was carried out in FL-8 wind tunnel of AVIC ARI.
As a low speed wind tunnel equipped with one 3.5m×2.5m test section, FL-8 wind tunnel was put into operation in 1965. Almost all types of Chinese aircrafts have been tested here and services have been provided for new product development in astronautic, automotive, building and high speed train industries, as well as for sports. As early as 1989, FL-8 wind tunnel was used to test jumpers during ski jumping take-off. The test campaign this year aims to improve the techniques of the ski jumping team for next Winter Olympic Games using aerodynamics.

During the test, the conditions during ski jumping in-run and flight phases were simulated and aerodynamic loads are measured. Ski jumpers experimented to explore the optimum posture for achieving a good flight making use of the aerodynamic data.
