The flow calibration of gust generator, which was designed and developed independently by AVIC ARI, was completed. It made wind tunnel FL-5 being provided with the gust response and gust alleviation test capability. 

During the development, numerical simulation was used to get the technical specification. After comprising different overall schemes, crank connecting rod mechanism driven by single motor was adopted.  Resonance issue was solved using kinetic analysis, structure design and finite element analysis, modal analysis and fatigue analysis.

The effects of wind speed, gust generator cascade oscillation amplitude and frequency on gust amplitude were tested using hot wire anemometer. The results show the developed gust generator is capable of producing sinusoidal gusts when the wind speed is ≤30m/s; The oscillation amplitude of gust generator cascade is ±1°~±5°, and oscillation frequency is 1~10Hz; The produced gust can cover the whole test section.
